位於美國紐約市曼哈頓第五大道40街和42街之間的紐約公立圖書館 (New York Public Library, NYPL) 是美國主要圖書館系統之一。1895年由政府和私人慈善機構捐贈共同合組至今滿125年。

除了“1984”、“Fahrenheit 451”和“How to Win Friends and Influence People”之外，其他都是童書/青少年小說。

有趣的一件事是，這份書單上除了這十本書，還有一本honorable mention《月亮晚安》。這本幾乎每個孩子都讀過的晚安書為什麼沒有上榜呢? 原來書單上的書都是在出版當年就收進圖書館，唯有這本《月亮晚安》因為當時一位頗具影響力的圖書館員Anne Carroll Moore選書偏好之故，一直到出版後25年才被選入。
